Austin, NV ➡️ Ely, NV

Week 1 is complete! I can’t believe we were in San Francisco starting our journey just a week ago. Yesterday was a little tough because of elevation (about 6,000-7,500 feet throughout the day), and my partner and I had some sort of incline for about 8 out of 11 miles. Our host last night definitely helped us refuel though - we had a community dinner with LOTS of food at the end of the day, which was amazing, especially after not having access to much food throughout the day before. We have been on the Loneliest Highway for a while and and struggled to find lunch and dinner on the evening of day 6.

Day 8 looks like it’s going to be similar to yesterday, so it might be a tough 12 miles, but at least it should be nice weather! Remembering the bigger picture and getting to spend time with such awesome people definitely make the tougher days worth it.

I am a 2019 graduate of Davidson College (B.S. in psychology), where I also played Division I field hockey.  I am planning on going into the medical field, and will be applying to graduate schools to pursue a career as a nurse or physician assistant after 4K.
