Sparks, NV

Today we got to visit the Ronald McDonald House in Reno, NV for a fun service day filled with baking for guests, cleaning, and organizing supplies. It was a touching day of serving families of cancer patients; we were really able to connect with strangers on a deep level because of shared or similar experiences in caring for loved ones with cancer or in battling cancer ourselves, as a couple of my teammates have. A few of us were also able to stop by the Renown Regional Medical Center and speak to a few patients and their families, which was truly special. We even met a CNA who was previously treated for cancer at that hospital and even received a scholarship from the Ulman Foundation a couple of years ago; was incredible to see and hear a bit of his story.

After completing our service event, we were able to spend a bit of time at Lake Tahoe, which was absolutely beautiful. We even ran into a group of women who wanted to hear our story and ended up taking a picture with us, saying they wanted to connect on Facebook and follow a bit of our journey. It has been amazing to see strangers take an interest in what we are doing, and almost every time we meet new people we are able to get more names of loved ones to dedicate miles to along the way. Tomorrow we will be running for our personal dedications as well as for Karyn, Valerie, Roselyn, Lou, and Brent, as these were the names that the group of women gave us today.

I am a 2019 graduate of Davidson College (B.S. in psychology), where I also played Division I field hockey.  I am planning on going into the medical field, and will be applying to graduate schools to pursue a career as a nurse or physician assistant after 4K.
