Fort Dodge, IA ➡️ Iowa City, IA
Today was a 16-mile day per person, bringing my total mileage from the past three days to 41 miles. This is definitely the most mileage I’ve ever done in three days! It was a pretty long day of running, especially since we got a bit of a late start after getting our van serviced. The late start, typical morning grumpiness, and a couple of sick teammates made for some low morale at the beginning of the day. Once we started running, we all got back into the groove and most of us completed all of our miles. A few people with injuries got in as many miles as they could before it wasn’t smart for them to continue. So far I’ve been able to complete all of my miles, and I’m hoping it will stay that way! I know how frustrating it is to be injured or sick and not be able to run when you want to be able to, and a few of us are dealing with those frustrations right now. I’m hoping we’re all healthy enough to be able to complete the last few weeks together (which I can’t believe are already here!!). We only have about three weeks left until our arrival in Boston, which is blowing my mind. In about three weeks, we’ll each be running 20 miles (all finishing these miles together - not relay-style) to get into Boston. Some days I think I’m ready to get back to my normal routine at home, but overall I’m definitely not ready for this to end! We’re all definitely trying to make the most of these last three weeks together, especially as we reach some cool places after spending a lot of time in the middle of nowhere.
Today I ran for Coach Simon, our weightlifting coach at Davidson who has taught us about so much beyond the weight room and is a cancer survivor.
