Sioux City, IA ➡️ Fort Dodge, IA

Today was an 11-mile day, and a lot of us are pretty exhausted and/or getting sick, so it was a tough day. When we got to the host site, learning that we would have beds for another night was a huge morale booster! We even stayed in apartments provided by La’ James International College, and it felt like I was back at school.

We had an amazing dinner provided by some staff at Unity-Point Health - Trinity Regional Medical Center. We each went around saying why we are here and who we’re running for, and the staff there let us know a little bit about them and what they do as well. We also got a tour of their cancer center, including the infusion center and where patients receive radiation, etc. The woman who helped us secure the host site is a cancer survivor and also had us over to her house, where we helped paint a toilet for a fundraiser (Angel Ride to Save the Tatas) - the toilet gets placed in people’s yards or in front of businesses, and the recipient must pay $25 to get the toilet moved to the next place.

Day 27 is a 16 mile day and then we’ll get a nice rest day in Iowa City tomorrow!

I am a 2019 graduate of Davidson College (B.S. in psychology), where I also played Division I field hockey.  I am planning on going into the medical field, and will be applying to graduate schools to pursue a career as a nurse or physician assistant after 4K.
