Yuba City, CA ➡️ Red Bluff, CA
Today was our first normal 4K day; no emotional send-off, no family cheering us on, and a 4:45am start to the day. As we get into the routine of things and are already experiencing some sore legs and scorching heat reaching 105 degrees today, we are already building bonds with teammates that will last a lifetime as we begin to lean on each other for encouragement and support.
Despite the heat, it was a fun day of running and seeing the less-inhabited parts of California. The endless orchards we keep passing are beautiful with the rolling hills and mountains in the background, and we began to see snow-capped mountains as we approached Red Bluff. We ended the day with a quick dip in a free public pool near our host site; I’ve never been so happy to jump in a pool, and with all of my clothes on. Our host, Presbyterian Church of Red Bluff, went above and beyond in their generosity in providing us a nutritious salad bar and fresh fruit, which were the most amazing things I’ve ever tasted after such a hot day.
I won’t be running with the team tomorrow since I will be one of two people in one of our vans going around to get food donations for our next couple of meals. Each person has to do this food donation task 2-3 over the 49 days, so you get a rest day (or can do some miles on your own) and go around to grocery stores, restaurants, etc. to see if they are willing to donate food to our cause so that all of the money we raise can go straight to supporting young adults with cancer.
Day 2 done!
